Guidelines for the Movie Review

The guidelines for the movie review are similar to those for the novel review. The paper should be 2-3 pages in length and try not to summarize the movie.

Critical Review of Hofstedte text, Culture and Organizations: Software of the Mind

Your review should be approximately 3-4 pages in length (typed double-spaced). Try to avoid being overly descriptive. Please provide a systematic analysis of the books strengths and weaknesses. What is your overall assessment of the books contribution? Good examples of professional book reviews are those published by the New York Times Book Review each week.

Critical Review of a Non-Fiction Text Related to Leadership and Management

Critically review a book listed on the posted bibliography. If you have another book you would propose to review, please check with us first. Follow the same basic guidelines described above for the Hofstede book.

Critical Review of a Novel with Implications for Leadership

Critically review a novel from the posted bibliography of novels with implications for leadership. If you have another novel you would propose to review, please check with us first. Your review should be approximately 3-4 pages (War and Peace and should be 5-7 pages). Your review should address the following questions:

• How is the novel relevant to leadership
• What lessons about leadership can be learned from the novel?
• Your overall assessment of the novel (from a leadership perspective)?

Group Project: Organizational Study

Your group should consist of two to four individuals. If your group consists of two individuals, we would expect a report of approximately 10 pages; three team members, 15 pages; and four team members, 20 pages. It is good to have diversity in your group were studying Matsushita, Inc., for example, it would be extremely helpful to have a fluent reader of Japanese in your group.

Major items to be included in your analytical study of an organization of your choice are the following:

• How would you describe its organizational structure?
• How would you describe its leadership style?
• What are the organizations major strengths?
• What are the organizations major weaknesses?
• What are the major challenges the organization faces as we approach the new increasingly multi-cultural century.
• What are your suggestions to the leadership of the organization to make it more effective and responsive in the future?

Critical Review of Campus Lecture Relevant to Leadership

These critical reviews should approximately 375-500 words in length. Analyze the speakers views as they relate to leadership. What have you learned about leadership from the presentation you have heard?

Self-Assessment of Your Own Leadership Capability

Drawing on readings such as those as Hofstede, Lifton (the Protean indvidual), and Csikzentmihalyi (Flow), how do you assess your strengths and weaknesses as a potential leader? What genre of leader would you like to be? Which well-known leaders are you personally most like and which leaders inspire you the most? This paper should be approximately 3 pages in length.

Analysis of Peers Papers on Leaders

Drawing on your peers written reports on leaders (on reserve at the Knight Library), do an analysis of what can be learned from these various leaders. Choose at least 10 papers on leaders. This synthesis paper should be approximately 3 pages in length.
